In this call we covered: 

  1. Donna’s DM strategy isn’t working. So we talked about how to refine it. 
  2. Jessica’s done lots of growing thanks to a cold DM strategy. But, it’s not converting to clients. So we talked about what to do instead and how to delegate to her VAs so they can support her in this shift.
  3. Ronni took the Content Mapping class but felt confused about what she came up with. So I asked her a few questions to get her to clarity. 
  4. Aimee is about to ask for referrals but she is uncertain about the language she should be using.
  5. Mary is expanding!!! How does she incorporate her fellow sleep consultants into her content? 
  6. Kristi is curious about how carousels perform compared to static posts. She’s also working on her engagement so I shared a tip that I thought a few needed to hear.

In this month’s Problem Solving Call we had some GREAT questions. Here’s what we covered: :

  • Petra has just finished some Message Mining calls and has some great data! She’s wondering how the heck to use it to make content decisions. We chat about what to look at to design lead magnets, and the role this data plays in overall content making. 

  • Ronni is getting clients in the DM! 3 since our last problem solving call, in fact! But she’s feeling stuck on some of her DM conversations and wants clarity around how to use the DM to lead to discovery calls. We have a VERY important conversation here about when to sell and when not to sell, the objectives in a sales DM, why you never have to lie, how to lead a DM conversation without violating your values, and what can make an invitation feel icky (for both of you). I really applaud Ronni’s commitment to her future clients, and the work she’s doing to feel confident and helpful online. 

  • Tal is pitching to 30 podcasts this month and wants to know how to make the most of her time on the podcasts to ensure it drives back to her business and content. 

  • Ajarae is also pitching! And she’s finding that she tends to talk herself out of pitching to competitors. We have a brief conversation around how to make that work (because I truly think there are no competitors). 

This very juicy conversation resulted in a few follow-up questions, which we answered at the end.

In this call we spoke to:

1) TAL: We talked about changing up her CTAs to promote her webinar so that she was leaning into participation mode instead of promotion mode. We also had to chat about the elephant in the room: In order for people to join a webinar every 2 weeks, bringing new people to your page is of top importance!

2) RONNI: She was wondering how to follow up with people she had supported in the past, before she officially had a business.

3) SVETLANA: Svetlana feels like something isn’t clicking with her content and didn’t know where to start. We went over some initial thoughts but came to the conclusion that given some imposter syndrome that was coming up, perhaps speaking to ideal clients would give her some confidence and direction with her content. I highly suggest our “Message Mining for I-Need-That Content” which is located in Phase 1 of the Breakthrough Calls page (you must be logged in access).
 
4) LANA: I’d also love to challenge you to have 5 ideal client interviews in the next 30 days to get a sense of who you’re speaking to so we can come up with an aligned content strategy ❤️

4) ALLISON (who came to the call for SARAH): We chatted about their preparation for a growth season. WOO HOO!
  • I suggested that they look at their pinned posts for growth.
  • I also praised their content. Love that belief work!
  • And we touched base on what content was bringing in the most growth (belief content by way of reels) so talked about how to really lean into that. — hint: repurpose some of your messaging.
  • But then we addressed the really important thing: Getting in front of new audiences.
  • Similarly to Tal, I suggest you listen to Ep. 2 of Marketing Unfiltered with Lisa for great tips on this. And also think The Pitch Class will be an awesome next step for you!

Welcome to another month of Problem Solving! These are completely unedited calls to help you see the behind the scenes of what figuring out marketing really looks like.

In this call we spoke to…

1. AIMEE: She’s headed on maternity leave and wants to make sure she’s built a foundation for new followers and current followers to know what she’s doing and how to take the next step with her. We had a bad internet connection together but I think it’s important to note our discussion around clarity and how I was skeptical of a word she was using in her bio. But since she had done good market research, we were able to move forward on it. Just another reason to do your market research! 
 
2. TAL: Tal’s page doesn’t feel branded, and that is causing some confusion for her audience. We talked about easy ways to clear things up for her so she feels like a business and her value is clear. Now she will be much more attractive to ideal followers AND potential collaborators. 
 
3. RONNI: Ronni is struggling with some imposter syndrome. I shared a personal story to help her take her next steps. 
 
4. KAITLYN: Katilyn has a 5 day challenge coming up. We talked a lot about the type of content she needs to be posting and where her priorities need to be. Please note: It was very hard discussing this on a problem solving call. I think I did the group a disservice by going down a few rabbit holes and I got a little confusing. (I’ll work on that). In this call we…

  1. Did a deep audit into Sarah’s content. First we got super clear on what she wanted (to get clients) and the systems she had in place for coversion (that were not working). We dissected why they weren’t working and addressed how to improve them, then we went into her content and put changes in place to make sure her content and overall presence was actually supporting her new system. 

  2. Then we chatted to Maureen. Maureen has a lot going on right now and she doesn’t want to put energy into creating social media content. However, she’s very consistent with her email content. So we focused on what is already a habit and how we can make her email efforts more effective. 

  3. In the middle of our chat with Maureen, Jess asked a question about hiring. Because this was something I thought both Maureen and Jess needed to think about, I brought Jess on to join the conversation. Jess felt like her graphics weren’t performing very well and didn’t understand why she should hire someone to create graphics if they got her low engagement. So we talked about the misunderstanding that “engagement” is the only metric for success. Here we talked about the role graphics play, what type of content to post and when, long captions vs. short captions, etc. 

  4. We turned back to Maureen to make sure she felt taken care of since the hiring question changed our topic a bit, and in that final discussion we talked about a different way to look at her content. She had so far been focused on sharing tips — which makes sense — but hadn’t been looking at it from a lens of changing the BELIEFS of her followers so they would be ideal clients. This perspective shift can be very effective for the person who feels burnt out by content creation, like Maureen. 

  5. And in the last few minutes of this 2 hour call, I wrapped up how I approached this audit so others could audit their own content: I helped people make the connection around how to make sure your social media is supporting your systems. In other words, design the system FIRST. Then the content.
